The Arhuaco community

In the heart of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Colombia), the indigenous Arhuaco community cultivates coffee as a spiritual and collective act.

Their coffee is produced using organic farming methods , under shade, in a fair trade model that reflects their autonomy and their sacred vision of the Earth.


➡️ 350 families cultivate coffee, cocoa and panela (cane sugar) between 750 and 1,600 m altitude .

➡️ Each grain is harvested by hand , guaranteeing a demanding selection process.

➡️ Families work autonomously, but daily mutual support is at the heart of their organization.

The transatlantic voyage

From Santa Marta to La Rochelle, this coffee traveled 7,000 km across the Atlantic, carried by the trade winds.


He traveled aboard the IDE MIN , a unique cargo sailboat:

  • 1957 topsail schooner (40 m long).
  • Loading capacity: 50 tonnes.
  • Crew: 12 professional sailors and trainees.


Each crossing embodies decarbonized logistics and a human adventure , connecting producers in the Sierra to lovers of exceptional coffee in Europe.

Specialty coffee: quality and character

Café d'Éole, produced by the Seynekun cooperative, is distinguished by:

  • Dominant aromas : floral, woody, sweet bitterness.
  • Altitude & terroir : cultivation between 750 and 1,600 m.
  • Hand-harvested : selective sorting to preserve the best grains.

💡 Q-Grade: 84.5/100 (balance, clean aromas, sweetness, complexity on the palate)

Sustainable & Fair

  • Sail transport → up to 97% of emissions avoided compared to airplanes.
  • Short supply chain : delivery in returnable buckets = zero waste.
  • Fair trade : a significant portion of the revenue goes directly to the Arhuaco producers.

Aromatic profile

Dominant aromas:

• white flowers, sweet cocoa, light woody notes

Secondary aromas:

• Fresh hazelnut, light caramel, hint of citrus on the finish

Body :

• Silky and lightweight, soft, enveloping texture

Acidity:

• Mild, balanced acidity, light lemony freshness

Bitterness:

• fine, controlled, without harshness or astringency

Final:

• Clean and harmonious, medium length, with a touch of cocoa and sweet spices

Roasting:

• Medium/monk's robe, to preserve the floral freshness and cocoa

The origin and the journey

This coffee comes from the highlands of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, hand-picked by the producers of Seynekun.
It reached France aboard a cargo sailboat, transported exclusively by sail, before being roasted locally in small batches.
